Fred Taylor Thinks 2008 Jags Are ‘Worst Team I’ve Been On’

Filed under: Jaguars, AFC SouthComing into the season, the Jaguars were the sexy pick of 2008. They were coming off an 11-5 season in 2007 where they lost to the Patriots in the second round of the playoffs, 12-6. Experts believed in David Garrard’s ability to avoid turnovers, as well as the running back duo of Maurice Jones-Drew and Fred Taylor. Their defense was also seen as a strength.

Well, things haven’t quite worked out for the Jags this season, and Taylor knows it. That is why he is calling this year’s Jacksonville team, which moved to 4-7 with the loss on Sunday to Minnesota, the worst team he has ever played for.
“In my eleven years this is probably the worst team, emphasize the word ‘team,’ that I’ve been on,” Taylor said. “We have some outstanding players but the mix is bad. We can’t really find that chemistry that we need. Usually, I think, if you have that chemistry good things just tend to happen to you just because. But we don’t have that mix and it’s just tough right now.”
Upon closer inspection, it turns out that Taylor might not be far off. Since 1998, the Jags have won as few as five games in only one season, 2003, when the team went 5-11. Even in that season, the stats were fairly similar. The ‘03 team was ranked 25th in offense and 18th in defense, pretty comparable to this season where they rank 24th on offense and 14th in defense.Continue Reading
