No football team ever goes into a season thinking about anything other than a Super Bowl win. It’s obviously the goal of every team every year. Except maybe the Dolphins. Two wins would suffice.
But if Fred Taylor has his finger on the pulse of the Jacksonville Jaguars — and one would have to think he probably does — it would seem as if anything short of making it to the big game would be a tremendous disappointment.
“It’s almost Super Bowl or bust,” Taylor said. “We got an opportunity to make the playoffs and we got a taste. It tasted pretty good and then we got beat. … I’m glad we had a chance last year, or got a little taste. Hopefully we can build off that and try and make some noise.”
[…]”I’m not going to sit here and B.S. you and say I don’t want to make it there,” Taylor said. “Coaches always say play it one week at a time. That is how they have to coach. They can’t look ahead, but the players realize what’s in front of us, and we know why we’re playing the game.”It’s not shocking to see Jacksonville’s goals that high; they were darn close last year and aside from not getting any help at wide receiver, the team looks pretty good heading into 2008.
But there’s also something to be said for not getting expectations too high — there are still questions surrounding this team and they do play in the same division as the Colts.
Interesting aside too, in the article, was that Taylor attended his first ever SB as a guest of good friend (really?) Plaxico Burress … and said it was too painful to ever go back unless he was a player.
