Cincinnati Bengals Notes, Quotes 2009-04-27
--The Bengals continued to address their need for quality depth in the backfield with two acquisitions. They landed Gary Russell on waivers from Pittsburgh and re-signed fullback Jeremi Johnson, who they waived late last season.

Russell scored the first touchdown in Pittsburgh's 27-23 win over Arizona in the Super Bowl. He has received some limited carries in the backfield but is also known as an adept kick returner.

Johnson, when he's been healthy and able to make weight, is an excellent blocking fullback. But last year he missed the first two preseason games for conditioning issues and then sustained a knee injury before the season opener.

--Four weeks after taking the final episode for his series "Dhani Tackles The Globe", middle linebacker Dhani Jones has reported for offseason conditioning. Jones led the team in tackles last year with 165.

"You have to keep your body right and represent how you're supposed to," Jones said during the team's weekly open locker room session. "You have to come in and perform your sport, your profession at the highest level. What better way to come in and be in shape as well?"

Jones' 10-week series began airing on The Travel Channel on March 16 and has taken him from Thailand, where he participated in muay thai fighting to Russia, where he took part in sambo.

This year's regular-season schedule features a stretch of all six AFC North games in a nine-week span. By the time the Bengals face the Browns in Week 12, it will mark the earliest end to its division slate since 1993, when they were done after Week 9.

QUOTE OF NOTE: "I love to run block, and I also love to pass block. I consider the quarterback to be my mother. So by any means necessary, I'm going to defend him. That's what I consider to be (my main attributes)." -- Andre Smith on his main attributes as a blocker.
