--The Bengals have won three openers in a row, dating to a loss in 2004 at the Jets.
--The NFL made no decision Wednesday on how to refer to WR Chad Johnson, who has legally changed his name to Chad Javon Ocho Cinco. Coach Marvin Lewis, who referred reporters' questions to the league office, said the receiver had wanted to make the change since March.
"It's not a stunt; he changed his name. It's a legal document," Lewis said.
It was a phone conversation with Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis -- a mentor -- that helped Johnson move past his offseason of discontent.
"I just told him to put his mind on God," Ray Lewis said Wednesday in a conference call with Cincinnati reporters. "He should focus more on God and the true blessings you have to be a role model for so many kids. So many people who want to do what you do and can't do what you do and don't have the ability to do what you do. So I told him every time you step out on the football field, every time you step anywhere in life let the image of God be shown through you."
--The Bengals' travel plans to Baltimore might be changed because of the possibility of Tropical Storm Hanna moving up the East Coast. The team charter might leave Friday night. A decision is expected Thursday morning.
--Eric Henderson, a defensive end on the Bengals practice squad, said that he has had dozens of relatives from Orleans and Jefferson parishes in New Orleans vacate the city for Texas, Arkansas, Georgia and northern Louisiana because of Hurricane Gustav.
Henderson, who attended Georgia Tech, now makes his home in Atlanta. His brother and sister moved there following Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and did not go back to New Orleans.
"I have cousins who say they're not going back because they are so frustrated with having to move all the time. It's not a good feeling," Henderson said.
--QB Carson Palmer has a 6-2 record as a starter against the Ravens. In eight games, Palmer has 2,141 yards with 12 touchdowns and seven interceptions against Baltimore.
--WRs Chad Johnson and T.J. Houshmandzadeh are aiming for their third consecutive season of joint 1,000 receiving yards.
--Ravens LB Ray Lewis has five interceptions against the Bengals, the most of any team.
BY THE NUMBERS: 7 -- In the last meeting, a 21-7 Cincinnati victory Nov. 11 at Baltimore, Bengals kicker Shayne Graham was 7-for-7 on field goals for all of the Bengals points.
QUOTE TO NOTE: "We'll be very prepared. We have two more days. So we'll be very well prepared. If we avoid turnovers, things will turn out great for us." -- Bengals wide receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh, commenting on how he, fellow wide receiver Chad Johnson and quarterback Carson Palmer had not practiced together until this week and were on the field together for the first time since the season finale Dec. 30 at Miami.
