REPORT CARD VS. REDSKINS
PASSING OFFENSE: B -- QB Ryan Fitzpatrick was 16-for-29 for 209 yards and one touchdown, compiling a 89.6 passer rating. The 79-yard screen pass to Cedric Benson was the longest play of the season for the Bengals. Fitzpatrick was sacked just twice. Chris Henry had his best game of the season with four receptions for 54 yards, including a long of 22 and his first touchdown reception of the season.
RUSHING OFFENSE: B -- The Bengals had their second best rushing game of the year with 106 yards. The best game was in the team's other victory, against Jacksonville. Cedric Benson ran for 73 yards and a 3.5-yard average. The Bengals had seven rushing first downs.
PASS DEFENSE: C -- The Bengals limited Jason Campbell to 167 yards passing and just one touchdown, a 10-yarder to Santana Moss. The Bengals didn't collect a sack but did pressure Campbell through much of the game. They had four quarterback hits. CB Leon Hall had three passes defensed.
RUSH DEFENSE: B -- The Bengals held the Redskins to a 3.5-yard average and bottled up Clinton Portis for 77 yards on 25 carries. Most impressive was the goal-line stand when FB Mike Sellers was stuffed twice from the 1-yard line, the second stop resulting in a fumble forced by LB Corey Mays and recovered in the end zone by Mays for a touchback.
SPECIAL TEAMS: D -- The Bengals let Rock Cartwright loose on kickoff returns and didn't get much on kickoff and punt returns. Still, Shayne Graham made both of his field-goal attempts.
COACHING: B -- Marvin Lewis' team, with a number of young players in the lineup, played hard and went out to a 17-0 lead in the second quarter. The offensive game plan was well-balanced, and the defense continues to improve under first-year coordinator Mike Zimmer. Credit Lewis and his staff for not tanking the season.
