After being heavily courted by Buffalo, Jones has decided to re-sign with Chicago. A source told FOXSports.com that Jones has agreed to a two-year, $3.5 million contract. Jones is slated to earn $2 million in 2009, including a $1 million signing bonus.
Jones signed with Chicago last year after spending his first four NFL seasons with Detroit. Jones appeared in 11 games, rushing 34 times for 109 yards. Jones was coming off a serious knee injury that led to his Lions release.
Jones is projected to play a larger role in 2009 behind starter Matt Forte, who led Chicago in rushing (1,238 yards) and receptions (63) during his rookie season. A 2004 first-round draft choice, Jones rushed for 1,133 yards as a rookie but injuries have prevented him from playing a 16-game season ever since.
Jones joins running back Fred Taylor (New England) and wide receiver Laveranues Coles (Cincinnati) as veteran offensive players who recently took free-agent visits with Buffalo but ultimately signed elsewhere.
